There is more than meets the eye at each parklet: under the surface are multiple systems from tree cell structures to adjustable pedestals. The GreenBlue Urban tree cells allow the roots to grow and expand, as well as prevent soil compaction. The adjustable Bison pedestals account for varying ground-level slopes to create the flat, walkable surface pedestrians experience.
To gain support for the Downtown Improvement Plan, the six parklets on Main Street allow for the vision to be implemented as a cost-effective demonstration project. The parklets expand the sidewalks into existing angled parking zones, resulting in shaded seating and dining areas as well as an overall improvement to the pedestrian experience. The design utilizes subgrade container structures that allow for the trees to thrive in a hardscape environment. A wood deck tile and pedestal system softens the parklets and allowed for true customization of space.
