The City of Round Rock recently completed construction of the Mays Street widening and a roundabout along Round Rock Avenue at Blair Street, including improvements to increase efficiency and safety of access for current and future businesses. Studio 16:19 was commissioned to provide design services for signage and native and adaptive landscape enhancements. At the heart of this western gateway to Downtown includes a corten steel Monument, with the iconic water tower as its backdrop. The landscape enhancements including native & adaptive plantings were proposed along Round Rock Avenue connecting to the Roundabout as well as the Kroughan Memorial Water Tower Parklet. Paver sidewalks connecting the Parklet to adjacent businesses are also included to promote walkability to visitor’s dining and shopping experience.
This location in the City holds a strong connection to Round Rock’s rich history and the incorporation of the historic Domino Gazebo helps show how far this community has come while reminiscing on what makes it unique and special. Although the Gazebo’s location has been shifted slightly from the original location due to traffic and street realignments, the spirit of the “Domino Gazebo” remains.
