St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Horseshoe Bay, Texas invited Studio 16:19 to design an underutilized space adjacent the newly established Family Life Center on the Parish campus. The project would be intended to honor the Armed Forces including family members, fallen comrades, and those who have served and continue to serve the United States of America. A strong sense of patriotism and service to our country are integral to the heritage of St. Paul the Apostle Parish as well as the Horseshoe Bay community.
Inspired by the “Lest We Forget” statue, created by Timothy Schmaltz, the Parish wanted to create a space that would allow anyone to quietly contemplate the sacrifices made by our servicemen, and to honor their commitment to our country. The design created several distinct areas where parishioners and donors could honor their loved ones, and visitors could quietly contemplate the sacrifices those who serve our country make every day.
The final design of the Garden highlighted three main focal areas:
The central focal point, “Lest We Forget” statue, a large water wall with engraved bronze stars, and a custom “Flag Wall with 13 metal panels symbolizing the 13 folds of the American flag during retirement.
